When you think of tanning beds, what images pop into your mind? Usually of being enclosed in a metal cocoon with strong lights along the top. Being entirely enclosed within a device does contain a certain amount of personal risk. Perhaps the most infamous misuse of a tanning bed was a British thief who hid in one – and yet turned it on at the same time. He burnt himself to a crisp. To get golden tones but not have to visit the emergency unit, you can use canopy tanning beds instead of the usual tanning bed.

Portable And Discreet

As well as being safer for you, canopy tanning beds have the advantage of being a lot more portable than a cumbersome full-immersion tanning bed. Canopy tanning beds look a lot like folding chairs, or full–length mirrors (depending on what kind you get). They weigh a lot less, too. With some canopy tanning beds, you can actually carry them outside and tan in the sun as well artificially.

But most people prefer to tan in the comfort, safety and secrecy of their own home. Not only do you not have to worry about the weather (or about the wind blowing sand all over your freshly oiled skin), but you also don’t have to worry about anyone leering at you while you’re in your bathing or birthday suit. Canopy tanning beds are also easier to store than conventional tanning beds.

Flexibility

Canopy tanning beds tend to be a lot more flexible than conventional tanning beds, so you can bend them not just to store them in a convenient spot, but tilt them to help you get a better tan. Canopy tanning beds also don’t need the extra voltage or special wiring that many conventional tanning beds need. Conventional tanning beds tend to need a 220 volt outlet in order to be used.

And another major advantage is their price. They only cost hundreds, while conventional tanning beds cost thousands. If you shop around, especially online, you can often find places that will offer free shipping or other incentives in order to get your business. Be sure you understand the company’s refund policies before you buy.

About the only disadvantage of canopy tanning beds is that there isn’t an ocean nearby. You could put on a white noise machine to simulate the sound of the waves. Keep in mind that you can only tan one side of your body at a time with a canopy tanning bed.

Her 16 year old is tanning on a daily basis, and actually looks like a very dark Hispanic girl at this point, although she should be fair and blonde, it’s weird how obsessed she is with her skin color. Her mother called all the tanning salons in the area threatening them with a lawsuit if they continue to let her in, she took her vehicle away, and the kid is still finding ways to get her sessions in, it’s unbelivable.

Does anyone have any suggestions that might help break this habit? We gave her photos of people with skin cancer, showed her how it ages your skin prematurely, nothing seems to have any impact! She is starting to look like an old pair of loafers! Help!
